THREE football clubs in Ceredigion have been targeted in a “deeply upsetting” spate of vandalism.

Borth United FC, Penparcau FC, and Bow Street FC have all reported incidents of vandalism over the past week.

At Bow Street, seats in the stand were smashed.

Penparcau FC said the vandalism, included scorch marks on the pitch, bottles in and around the stand and graffiti.

And at Borth FC, it was reported that a small area of the stand had been scorched by a fire.

Wyn Lewis, chairman of Bow Street FC, said he was “disappointed” to see the acts of vandalism during such a tough time for the sport.

He said the club finds this incident “deeply upsetting”, and the police have been informed.

Wyn Lewis, of Bow Street FC, said seats in the Emlyn Rees stand were “smashed” sometime between 30 May and 2 June.

“The club finds this incident deeply upsetting, at a point where players, junior members, officials and the community are pulling together to complete the Round the World Challenge, raising money for local causes during this unprecedented time.

“The club prides itself on having first-class facilities for the whole community to enjoy and will now have to repair the damage at a time when club resources are limited and where fundraising opportunities are severely hampered.

“The police have been informed and enquiries are being made to identify the individuals responsible, based on CCTV evidence. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police or officials at Bow Street FC.”

Steve Evans, secretary at Penparcau FC, said they discovered vandalism on Saturday, 30 May.

But he also highlighted that it is a “regular occurrence” for the club.

“It’s a constant problem for us. We have just rebuilt the stand and it has already been the subject of graffiti, broken bottles, so on. The police have been very supportive, providing a CCTV camera and increased patrols.”

The club will be putting 50 seats, sponsored by supporters in the stand. But the seats are yet to be installed as they fear they will be vandalised before their Football Association of Wales inspection in a couple of weeks.

Trudie Willcox, treasurer for Borth FC, reported that a small area of the Borth stand had been scorched by a fire. Trudie said: “It was disappointing. I think it’s just kids being bored at the moment. But clubs like us rely on a few volunteers and a tight budget.”
