Police across Gwynedd and Ceredigion have reported turning visitors away from tourist hotspots over the weekend, after England lifted lockdown travel restrictions.
Police later found that the driver did not have a licence or insurance and, upon seizing the vehicle, officers also found cannabis.
Aberystwyth Police tweeted: “Patrols at Borth and Ynyslas.
“Vehicle located – reported for travelling from Midlands area to walk dog.
“With assistance from @CeredigionRPU 376, reported for no insurance and no licence. Car seized and cannabis found.”
Additionally, North Wales Police reported that at least 26 people had been reported and sent home from the Barmouth area alone on Saturday afternoon.
At 9.45am a driver who was travelling from the West Midlands to do work on his second home was reported and sent home.
Later, four people from Walsall who travelled to Barmouth for a day trip, and a further four from Liverpool were also sent home and reported.
In a Facebook post, NWP Gwynedd South stated: “Thank you to the vast majority who are listening and staying home.
“At 09:45hrs today, a vehicle was stopped in Barmouth. The driver has travelled down from the West Midlands to do some work on his second home.
“He has been reported for breach of Covid regulations and sent home.
“Later four people decided to come for a day trip to Barmouth from Walsall. They were also reported and sent home as were four more from Liverpool on a day out to the beach.
“The beautiful coastline will still be here for all to appreciate in the future.”
In addition to this, North Wales Police also reported four men in Bala who were driving back to the Manchester area.
In a post on Facebook, NWP Gwynedd South said: “Following concerns from local residents in the Bala area, about three vehicles with nine men who were in the area this afternoon, we can confirm that four of the individuals have been reported about cutting Covid-19 rules.
“They have been driven back to the Manchester area.
“We are aware of the video that has appeared on Facebook about the matter. Thank you for your co-operation.”
