COUNCILLORS have backed calls for equipment that could help speed up the reopening of the A487 after crashes.
Corris Community Council has raised concerns that incidents on the road take so long to investigate that the road remains closed for lengthy periods, causing major disruption.
The council has called for specialist laser equipment that can help investigations be concluded more quickly to be located at the Powys-Gwynedd border.
That request has been backed by members of Machynlleth Town Council, as well as community councillors in Llanbrynmair and was considered by councillors in Cadfarch and Glantwymyn Community Councils.
Christina Miller, the clerk of Corris Community Council, said: “The council has been concerned about the time it takes to reopen the trunk road following accidents, which sadly are quite frequent.
“Every serious accident needs to be properly investigated by the police however, in the Corris area there are no routes suitable for detours so delivery vehicles and even the emergency services get severely delayed or have to take long alternative routes.
“There is laser equipment which can carry out the investigation at accident scenes within an hour or so, rather than the half or whole day that is taken to do it manually."
