Former Aberystwyth University Student Dr Giulio D’Errico will return to the town to share his experience of working with Echo Mobile Library in Greece.
After completing a doctorate in History at Aberystwyth University, Dr D’Errico relocated to Athens, as he was moved by the plight of the boat people who were fleeing Syria and wanted to try to help.
Dr D’Errico now works for Echo mobile Library, a multilingual lending library on wheels.
The organisation works in solidarity with people living in isolated refugee camps in Greece.
The evening will feature contributions from Echo librarians Dr D’Errico and Becka Wolfe, who will look back on the library’s first 10 years and will discuss the changes in European asylum policy and the conditions and struggles faced by people caught within the system.
Dr D’Errico said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to talk about Echo Mobile library and the work that we do in a town that is very dear to my heart. And how fitting that Aberystwyth now holds the title of UNESCO City of literature. I cannot wait to tell people more about this amazing organisation.”
Music from DJ Badly, Becka and the Wandering Welshman will follow the discussion.
The event will take place at The Bandstand, Aberystwyth, on Wednesday 28 October (7pm-10.30pm).
Admission is free, with pay-what-you-feel donations welcome.
Merchandise will be available to buy during the evening.
