OVER £700 has been raised at an event in Llanbedrog with the help of a film star for underprivileged children in Africa.
Three years ago a documentary series O Nefyn i Nairobi followed the children of Nefyn Primary School and Spurgeons Academy, Nairobi and watched how they came together to work on creative projects, organised by Anno’s Africa, that would change their lives forever.
Since the two schools were twinned in 2011 they have forged a close relationship which has expanded the horizons of the pupils, despite the differences in backgrounds and living standards.
Creative workshops have also been set up to link the children together.
A recent fundraising event at Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw gave the children in both workshops the chance to create a number of ‘tote bags’ to sell at the event to raise funds for their cause.
Actress Hayley Mills, who starred in Parent Trap and Wild at Heart, and is a trustee of Anno’s Africa, was also in attendance at the Children’s Day event.
Joy Brown, who volunteers for Anno’s Africa and runs a workshop for the children on the Llyn, said the event was a huge success.
