Councillors in Gwynedd have given a Bala-based premises a licence to serve alcohol at public performances.
A hearing of the authority’s central licensing committee gave the green light to an application put forward by Bala-based Yr Hwb to include the sale of alcohol on the premises, film showings and drama staging, live and recorded music and dance performances.
This will allow plays and films at the Bala café and children’s play area between 9am and 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and until 10pm on other days of the week.
Live and recorded music, meanwhile, will be allowed until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays and 11pm on all other days, with alcohol served both on and off-site until 1.30am and 11pm respectively.
Following some local concerns, a compromise was been reached where outside entertainment would only be permitted until 7pm at the latest.
To comply with the proposed licence, measures will include training to ensure that the sale and use of illegal drugs is prevented, a CCTV system put in place and outdoor lighting maintained in order to ensure the safety of customers late at night.
