Madam,

I can see that Elin Jones AM, Plaid Cymru, is in a difficult position when the Plaid Cymru-controlled Ceredigion County Council is attempting to close Bodlondeb Residential Home and Elin is supporting the campaign to keep it open.

But I was disappointed to see Elin attempting to blame Welsh Labour for the position Plaid Cymru finds itself in and I don’t see how her comments help the residents of Bodlondeb or their families who are so concerned for theirs and the home’s future.

We need to be clear about this once and for all - Bodlondeb is a residential care home, it is not a nursing care home. Ceredigion council, which is controlled by Plaid Cymru, has absolute jurisdiction and authority over our council-run residential care homes.

Ceredigion council wants to close our residential care homes. All of them. Not just Bodlondeb, that’s the first, but all of our residential care homes, one by one.

The best way to prevent Bodlondeb from closure is for all of us supporting the Save Bodlondeb Campaign - political parties, unions and the communities affected - to cooperate together in finding a positive way forward whereby we can keep Bodlondeb, and our other residential care homes, open and in the public sector.

Yours etc,

Dinah Mulholland, Ceredigion Labour Party.
