Tywyn town councillors have reacted angrily to vandalism in the town at the weekend.

A planter with bulbs and plants in it ready for the spring was vandalised on Saturday night.

The planter, located on the train station platform, was pushed over, and Tywyn Town Council took to social media to express their anger.

“Tonight the planter on the station has been vandalised,” a statement said.

“Tim [Kendall] had already planted the spring bulbs and some plants in there and the thing would have weighed over a tonne. This would have taken about five determined people.”

Appealing to the public to help find the culprits, the statement added: “Please report any suspicious behaviour. A report has been made to the British Transport Police so let’s hope we can catch whoever was responsible.”

Tywyn Town Council clerk, Francesca Pridding, told the Cambrian News: “The community is angry that their environment has been vandalised and take great pride in the appearance of the town. Tim Kendall works very hard for the town council and it’s very disheartening when hard work like this is destroyed.”

The planter was cleared up by Sunday, but further work and expense will now be needed to replant the bulbs and plants knocked over in the vandalism, the town council added.

The British Transport Police said they were making enquiries about the damage.

A spokesperson said: “British Transport Police received a report of a large plant pot being damaged at Tywyn station. The damage is believed to have happened on 4 January. Enquiries continue, there have been no arrests.”
