I noticed the Cambrian News gave some coverage to the reaction of council staff to the pay rise awarded to their boss, Eifion Evans, but nothing given to the anger of the people who will fund this lavish gesture.
I’m sure that I’m not the only one to have calculated that a worker on minimum wage needs to put in 42 weeks of 40 hours just to earn the amount of the increase.
The total package represents a burden of about £2 per year on every man woman and child in the county.
Is this the best use of £15,000 of our money?
What if that sum was spent on cleaning up the town, ensuring efficient waste collection or repairing the streets?
The councillors who approved this increase should be ensuring that local residents and businesses get the best value for money and not striving to pay the greatest sum possible in the hope that a good result will follow. We now know who not to vote for next time around. Congratulations to the three councillors who stood against the madness.
If, of course, Evans believes he is worthy of such generous remuneration then perhaps he could choose to resign and take his chances on the open job market.
