THE parents of a six-year-old Pen Llyn girl who has returned home following emergency brain surgery have an anxious week’s wait to see if further surgery will be needed.

Ysgol Morfa Nefyn pupil Evie Hughes was allowed to come home last Thursday after spending almost three weeks at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, where neurosurgeons operated to drain fluid from a tumour which has made her blind in one eye.

The tumour might not have been detected if Mrs Hughes hadn’t taken her to the optician after Evie’s teacher, Miss Ferris, noticed something wrong with her eyesight.

Evie’s parents, Heather and Geraint, will find out next Thursday whether Evie can go ahead with chemotherapy treatment before flying out to Florida for proton therapy, a more precise form of radiation therapy, or whether she will need more invasive brain surgery.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Mrs Hughes explained: “Evie is due back into Alder Hey on 9 November for an MRI scan. Hopefully we can start chemotherapy then on 13 November.

A charity bingo evening to raise money for Evie and her family has been organised at Nanhoron Arms Hotel on Thursday, 16 November.

Doors open at 6.30pm. For more information, phone: 01758 721404.
