Madam,

Your paper of 4 February has chapter and verse on the percentages of forthcoming budget cuts and then another article tells of a mere two per cent filling out the council questionnaire.

Regarding the questionnaire I wonder if there wasn’t a measure of apathy, perhaps and a measure of inevitability and resignation, ie what can’t be cured having to be endured.

I personally shudder at the thought of so many public toilets throughout Gwynedd closing, if only because they seem to be few and far between as things stand, at present. Furthermore, once they have been closed we will be fortunate to see them in use again.

There seems to be a rumour, too, of trains not going through to Birmingham. Whatever other plans there may be it will mean inconvenience to the travelling public.

As it is, go to any station. Firstly, no visible staff; no measure of comfort, whatsoever, nothing at all resembling a welcome and what does meet the eye is strictly utility.

It doesn’t matter where one looks, there is no sign of progress. People seem to count for very little and I do wonder what will encourage youngsters to want to stay and work here. After all, with our youngsters lies our future.

Yours etc

Jill Baxter
