SAND artist Marc Treanor was on New Quay beach last week to create a 40-metre sand circle to raise awareness of the RNLI’s plans to withdraw the all-weather lifeboat in 2020, and took three hours to complete.

The artwork carries the message ’No Lifeboat in a Storm’ as the boat that the RNLI plan to station in New Quay cannot launch when conditions exceed force 6-7, leaving Ceredigion without a lifeboat capable of launching in any weather for the first time since 1843.

Marc said: “I am happy to be supporting the campaign to save New Quay’s all-weather lifeboat.

“The presence of such a craft in these waters seems totally necessary to me and I hope that the decision to downgrade it can be reversed.”

At 6pm, New Quay lifeboat launched on exercise as the sand circle was washed away by the incoming tide.
