THE DIRECTOR of Aberystwyth Arts Centre has quit after three years in the job.

Gareth Lloyd Roberts decided to leave his post to go to “pastures new”, an Aberystwyth University spokesperson said.

Mr Lloyd Roberts took over in 2013 at a low for the centre after the controversial suspension and later retirement of long-time director Alan Hewson.

Following Mr Lloyd Roberts’ resignation, the university said it will be discussing arrangements for a permanent position with the Arts Council of Wales in the new year and that the institution “anticipate advertising” the post in late spring.

No reasons were given for Mr Lloyd Roberts quitting the post.

In the meantime, deputy director Louise Amery - who also served as deputy under Mr Hewson - will take the helm.

Dr Rhodri Llwyd Morgan, pro vice chancellor and chair of Aberystwyth Arts Centre Advisory Board, said: “Gareth has been with us for three years and during that time, he has led the arts centre with great energy and enthusiasm.

"I am sure I speak for the whole of the advisory board and the staff in thanking him for his valued contribution and wishing him the best for the future.”
