Clipboards were circulated for the Netta Cup bowling competition on 6 August and Crown green bowls at Tywyn. Our guest speaker was Maureen Owens with ‘Poetry Please’. Maureen said she was pleased to be asked back and might join us, other commitments permitting. She asked if we had heard of ‘Mind Mapping’, a way of writing things down about a specific topic. Not in any order but as and when she thought about them as it helped to connect up the words thus remembering what that topic was. Her example was words connecting to poetry. It was very interesting. She then read a couple of Pam Ayres poems, which she read with great humour, one about technology which was quite apt for many of us. She said she loves to read all types of poetry but cannot write it herself. She talked about her late father, Peter McGovern who was a poet and read some of his works, also works by other poets including Wordsworth. She finished with some amusing limericks. It was a very enjoyable performance and she was warmly thanked by Christine Leese and Maureen said she would be happy to come back another time if asked. The monthly competition was won by Joan Probert, second Pam Payton and third Pat Millward.
