A BOW STREET woman has embarked on a charity drive in a bid to keep her promise to her daughter to help find a cure for diabetes.
Beth Robinson, originally from Aberystwyth, is marking the 25th anniversary of her type one diabetes diagnosis by attempting to walk or run 10,000km in 2017 to raise money for charity.
She will undertake part of her challenge with her four-year-old daughter Malaika, who was herself diagnosed with the condition two years ago.
“I decided to spend my 25th year with the illness raising money and awareness of the illness,” Beth said.
“I made a promise to my daughter when she was diagnosed that I would help find a cure.
“The 25th anniversary of my diagnosis was the inspiration for the type of fundraiser, to try and change people’s perceptions of diabetes - that not all diabetes is the one you hear about in the media.
“I wanted to raise awareness, encourage people to join me in their own challenge, raise money with the virtual races and show my daughter and other people with type one that the illness doesn’t have to define you.
“I am fundraising for JDRF, the type one diabetes charity.
“I don’t have a target, because I’m not going to stop trying to raise funds until there is a cure, regardless of how many years that may take.”
