CARDIGAN needs to make next year’s Christmas lantern parade through town even bigger and better, according to town mayor Cllr Clive Davies.
The lantern procession – a focal point of the town’s Festive Fortnight - has drawn widespread praise.
Huge crowds witnessed the parade - the culmination of Small World Theatre’s lantern-making workshops which saw the construction of Christmas lanterns as well as lanterns with an Eisteddfod theme - followed by choral singing at Prince Charles Quay and a fireworks display.
Cllr Davies now says the challenge is to somehow improve on this year’s proceedings whilst also establishing the event as an annual festive occasion.
“This is not the time to rest on our laurels. This is the time to raise our game and try and think outside the box,” he told the Cambrian News.
“We need to decide what we can do to make this a successful annual event. The fact is we had as many people in town on that Friday night as we do for Barley Saturday.
“I imagine we can look at having a different theme for the lantern parade each year. The Town Centre Partnership will be discussing ideas in January. We need to start planning now for December 2017.”
