LITTER bins across Gwynedd could be scrapped in a shock bid to save money.
The incredible claim, which would see every county council-owned bin removed from service, was made by Dyffryn Ardudwy’s councillor Eryl Jones-Williams at Barmouth Town Council’s December meeting.
The proposal is expected to be up for discussion in the near future as the local authority seeks to find any cost saving measures it can.
The council is already looking to cut millions of pounds from its budget as a shortfall from the Welsh Government’s settlement meant Gwynedd had to make up a shortfall of approximately £6 million.
Play parks, public toilets, dementia day care, and footpaths are amongst the list of services which potentially face severe cutbacks.
Cllr Jones-Williams, who occasionally sits in on the Barmouth council meetings, was discussing the council’s recent decision to remove hyper local recycling centres.
Barmouth has lost its recycling facilities in the town’s main car park as, according to Barmouth county councillor Gethin Williams, the firm responsible for picking up the containers was “no longer collecting them”, making them obsolete.
Gwynedd Council has subsequently removed the recycling facilities from numerous towns and communities across Dwyfor and Meirionnydd.
