PILES of black bags left on the steps of properties on a busy road into Aberystwyth are making the town look like Naples, according to one resident.

Occupants of properties at the bottom of Penglais Hill are making the town look “awful”, a resident who wished to remain anonymous told the Cambrian News.

The piles of bin bags were spotted on Sunday, 26 February, despite Ceredigion County Council not collecting refuse at the properties until the next day.

The council advises residents to not leave refuse out until 8am on the day of collection to prevent seagulls and other animals attacking the bags and leaving rubbish strewn around the town.

“There are piles of black sacks on the steps of properties at the bottom of Penglais Hill,” said the resident. It looks just awful. A lot of money has been spent on the Aberystwyth approach road to get it looking better and to improve the place. But seeing this reminds me of Naples.”

A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: “The council monitors issues such as the presentation of waste on an ongoing basis and can consider responding to waste being presented at incorrect times if the information arises.

“This can include officers visiting properties to return incorrectly presented waste and/or providing advice to householders on when and how their waste should be presented."
