A REPRESENTATIVE of the Citizens Advice Bureau will be at the library on Mon-day mornings between 10am and 1pm.There is no news as to when the Macmillan support co-ordinator will be available in per-son, but the library staff will listen and pass on any questions or problems you might have.

AR 4 Mawrth bu i aelodau Cymdeithas y Gorlan gynnal ddydd Weddi Byd Eang y Chwiorydd yng Nghapel Calfaria, gyda’r Parch Anita Ephraim ac mewn dyddiau bu y cyfarfod blynyddol yng Nghapel Carmel ac i ddilyn bu i Gwynne Pearce roi sgwrs ar Dylanwadau Canu Pop Cymru. Mae un cyfarfod i orffen y tymor a bydd hwnnw yn Gymun Bore y Groglith am 9yb, 25 Mawrth, yng Nghapel Bethesda, gyda Rhian Williams.

Sports

THE Blaenau Amateurs FC were 2-1 home winners against Halkyn United with Keiron Ellis and Bryn Humphreys their scorers.They have no match this Saturday, while the Reserves will be home to Llandudno Junction, having lost 5-0 at Llanberis last Saturday. Bro Ffestiniog XV had a fine 51-0 home win over Denbigh in a WRU Division 2 match.

Volunteers of the Year prizes

AFTER discussing a motion put forward by Cllr Bedwyr Gwilym to establish volunteer of the year prizes for those who are the back-bone of many clubs, organisations, cultural a recreation activities in the community, the town council resources sub-committee has already earmarked £750 in the council’s precept for this.They agreed there will be five category prizes and will accept the design of the suitable poster as well as to try and arrange a concert for the prize-giving ceremony.

Moelwyn Fell Race

BLAENAU Amateurs FC are in the process of setting up this year’s popular 10-mile Moelwyn Fell Race like they have been doing for many years.The date has been announced as Saturday, 16 April to set off at 2pm. The race will not be a British Championship event this year, so the runners will revert back to Cae Pipes where the race will end.

Dref Werdd Event

THE DREF Werdd has earmarked Saturday, 16 July as the day for an event that they are planning at the local park.More information about the event will be released nearer the date.

Railway questionnaire scrapped

THE TOWN council has agreed that organising a questionnaire to be sent to each home to seek the views of residents on the future of the disused Blaenau Ffestiniog to Trawsfynydd railway line would not be a good use of the council’s scarce resources.However, they are to discuss how an application can be made to the Big Lottery with Antur Stiniog.Given the difficulties with the lease offered, it has meant money was not available and the council felt it would be a good idea to write to the MP, after discussing it with Antur Stiniog.

Lease

THE LEASE that the Angry Scones Racing Team holds at the skate park is set to expire and the council has held a discussion about extending it for another five years. The council sub-committee has asked the racing team to confirm that they do adhere to the terms of the lease and if they are willing to erect a fence or a screen or railing around the racetrack to protect users from cars leaving the site.The council has recommended that on condition that public liability of £2m is in place, with a copy of the certificate to be given to the council. The team has also been recommended to request a change of planning permission to use the track on Sundays and after 6pm.It was agreed to offer the lease for 5 years starting on 8 March. In the meantime, the racing team has agreed to abide by the clauses in their lease and to give a copy of the current insurance public accountability for the town council each year.

Archaeology Society

AT THE last Bro Ffestiniog Archaeology Society, meeting the speaker was Dr Jane Kenney on the subject of round-houses.Dr Kenney is a senior archaeologist with Gwynedd Archaeological Trust and obtained her doctorate at Edinburgh University.Opening the talk, she outlined the location of the highest concentrations of these dwell-ings in north west Wales as being along the Menai Straits on the edges of the Carneddau and on Anglesey. Classic examples can also be found on the Llyn Peninsula and above Harlech.Concentrations of round-houses are found in and in the vicinity of hill forts, Tre’r Ceiri, near Penygroes is a classic example which was occupied before and into the Roman period. Dr Kenney also outlined the link between such round-house locations and original field systems, many of which have continued to the present day. There are four classic types of round houses – wattle walled, clay walled, wooden walled and stone walled with most of those in the Bro Ffestiniog area made of stone due to the availability of material.The next meeting will be on Thursday, 24 March, when Steffan ab Owain will give a talk in Welsh on ‘Ychydig o Hyn a Llall’ where he will discuss some of his finds over the years. Bryn Jones will provide instant translation.The talk will be held at the day centre of Y Ganolfan at 7pm for 7.30pm.
