Madam,

As a resident and town councillor I attended, with many others from Penparcau, the county council scrutiny meeting when the future of our much-appreciated Bodlondeb care home was discussed.

The information provided by council officers painted a very negative picture as to the future of the home. We were told how Bodlondeb was not up to the necessary standards, bedrooms were too small, there was a lack of en-suite facilities, a leaky roof – all reasons why closure was being recommended.

How has Ceredigion council got to this position? What have been their priorities over recent years?

Looking after the elderly does not seem to have figured very highly as a priority, since they managed to find money for plush new council offices that ironically can be seen from Bodlondeb. Also money was found for a new bandstand on the promenade which is more empty than it is full, and soon we will see with much publicity and fanfare for the opening of a new facilities at the museum.

Councillors have rushed to take part in the opening ceremonies associated with these projects. Will they rush to be there when the doors of Bodlondeb are closed for the last time.

Yours etc,

Cllr Charlie Kingsbury, Aberystwyth town councillor, Penparcau.
