AN “OUT of control bonfire” has destroyed 1,000 square metres of grassland in Meirionnydd.

This morning at approximately 9am several emergency vehicles rushed to Pwll Helig, in the hills behind Aberdyfi, where a fire had raged out of control.

Using fire beaters, firefighters from three separate appliances managed to quell the flames after two hours of struggle but not before a quarter acre of land was burnt.
