Royal British Legion
THE 10th anniversary of the refoundation of the Royal British Legion branch in Borth was marked by the annual Anzac Dinner held at Llety Parc (Park Lodge), organised by Yvette Ellis-Clark. Amongst those present (pictured) were Mark Williams MP and Mrs Williams; Rachel Rowlands, Deputy Lieutenant of Dyfed; Tony Hockenhull, HMS Gambia Association; Cllr David Greaney, chair of Llanbadarn Community Council, and county councillors Ray Quant and Paul Hinge, who spoke about the efforts being made in Ceredigion to support veterans in need. The Australian High Commission was represented by WO 2 Delwyn Jones, who was born in New Zealand but now serves in the Australian Army. Stationed currently at Haverfordwest, she gave a spirited speech, outlining her role in publicising her country and its armed forces. Gil Jones, an expert on the war memorials of Ceredigion, outlined the history of Richard David Davies, who was born in 1883 at Strata Florida. Having emigrated to Australia with his parents, he enlisted in the Australian army on the outbreak of the Great War, sadly to be killed at the Battle of Fromelles in July 1916.
