MACHYNLLETH bowlers have presented Welsh Hearts with a cheque for £1,000 following fundraising efforts over the past few months.

Welsh Hearts has already placed over 900 defibrillators across Wales and continues its mission to reduce sudden death in Wales.

The charity was recently invited to Westminster by Ceredigion MP Ben Lake to further promote awareness with other MPs and lobby for more frequent and accessible heart screening.

Welsh Hearts north Wales business and fundraising manager Nick Aitken said: “With most heart conditions, a simple ECG can detect a potentially life-threatening illness or heart arrhythmia yet it is not offered by our health service as standard as with other screenings such as cancer. We have to do more to protect lives in Wales which, is why Welsh Hearts offers heart screenings but this costs us as a charity £6,000 a day.”

The Machynlleth group, Cyfeillion Gyrfa Chwist Clwb Bowlio, seen here presenting Nick with the cheque in Aberystwyth at a festive lunch fundraiser, have already funded a number of defibrillators in the Machynlleth and Aberystwyth area and continue to raise money for the charity.
