The mother of a five-year-old boy, who was given a slim chance of survival after a caravan blaze that killed his younger brother, is completing a charity sky dive this afternoon (Thursday).

First-time flyer Erin Harvey will be jumping out of an aeroplane this afternoon to raise money for Wales Air Ambulance and to thank them for “their part in saving Harley”.

“They are an incredible charity, the work they do is amazing,” Erin said.

“They are the reason Harley got the care he needed as quickly as he did after the fire. They are part of the reason Harley is here with us today and we can’t thank them enough.”

So far, Erin has raised £650 of her £750 target for Wales Air Ambulance.

Speaking to the Cambrian News earlier this year, Erin said their “family will never be the same again” after a caravan fire in Ffair Rhos took the life of Erin’s youngest son, three-year-old Zac, and left Harley, 5, in critical condition back in January. Their father, Shaun, was hospitalised.

Harley was transferred from Bronglais to Bristol’s Children’s Hospital, for the vital care he needed, by Wales Air Ambulance.

Despite being a first time flyer, Erin is “super excited” about the jump: “I’m not nervous yet. Maybe it will hit my on the day. I’ve never even been in an aeroplane never mind jumping out of one.

“I thought jumping out of a plane was a fitting way to raise money for the Air Ambulance, also I knew I needed to do something big to raise as much money as I could.

“I am super excited about the jump, I cannot wait!”

Mark Stevens, the Charity’s South Wales Fundraising Manager, said: “It is impossible to imagine the pain and sadness that the family must be going through. From such a tragic incident, Erin has decided to raise money to help others who find themselves in medical need. This is truly awe-inspiring and shows incredible resilience.

“We wish young Harley well with his recovery and thank Erin for her generosity and inspiration.”
