Madam,
I would like to respond to the letter from Jean Miles of Harlech (‘Hands up who is fed up of Brexit’)There are issues regarding Brexit which will affect many thousands of people and to say that we are fed up with these negotiations is both mindless and selfish.
To make my point even clearer for Mrs Miles, I would refer to the very same edition of the Cambrian News, where I read on page 11 that Ffestiniog Town Council has stated that “there is real concern” locally about the impact of a ‘No Deal’ Brexit which they believe would damage our economy and make the country poorer.
Further on, I read on page 22 that the farming charity is appealing for new volunteers as Brexit looms, stating that farmers are concerned about the impact of Brexit on their farm businesses.
There we have it, real concerns with no hands raised. As for Mrs Miles’ mention of Jeremy Corbyn, I wonder if she is aware that half of the Tory Cabinet are trying to stop Theresa May’s moves.
Thank goodness we have politicians standing up for us; the young people in particular need as much help as they can get. In fact in the Midlands there are groups of young people getting together to push their message without their hands in the air shouting “we are fed up with Brexit”, far from it.
They need help from us and we shouldn’t turn our backs on them just because “we’re alright Jack”.
Brexit is one of the biggest challenges this country has had to face and to belittle it by asking “hands up those who are fed up with Brexit” is irresponsible.
Yours etc, O Jean Thomas, Llanfair.
