A PROPOSAL for a £1,400,000 estate made entirely of affordable homes for locals has been welcomed.

Llais Gwynedd councillor Gareth Williams, who represents Botwnnog, has met with local building contractor John Jones to discuss plans for new homes in the village.

If plans progress, Mr Jones hopes there will be 12 two-bedroom bungalows adjacent to the old Tai Eryri estate in Botwnnog, each costing £119,000 and with regulations in place to ensure the homes went to local residents.

The plan, which should create “at least 40 jobs”, was submitted to Gwynedd Council last week and should come before the planning committee this summer.

Cllr Williams was pleased with the initiative.

“I’m fully supportive of the application to be honest – I think there’s a big demand for these kind of homes in Pen Llyn,” he told the Cambrian News.

“At £119,000 – they actually are ‘affordable homes’.

“When we hear “affordable homes”, we automatically think of the young generation, looking to start a family, and take their first step on the property ladder – however, as these bungalows are two bedroom, they could also appeal to the older generation, where they feel their 3/4 bedroom homes are too big for them, and they’d prefer something smaller and easier to look after."
