The cost of booze is set to rise in Wales on Monday as a new law comes into force.
The Welsh Government has set a minimum price for alcohol sold in Wales meaning that drinks cannot be sold or supplied for less than 50p a unit.
The price of most alcoholic drinks will remain the same, but high-strength, low-cost products like white cider will be significantly more expensive.
The policy, introduced through the Welsh Government’s Public Health (Minimum Price for Alcohol) (Wales) Act 2018, aims to reduce hazardous and harmful levels of drinking.
Around 10 people die every week in Wales from alcohol related causes.
Under the rules, a 70cl bottle of vodka, at a strength of 37.5 per cent abv, costs £13.13.
However, there are now concerns that higher alcohol prices could push some drinkers towards other, more harmful substances.
