A CAMPING equipment company founded in and named after Beddgelert is to cut its last remaining ties with the village.
The Cambrian News understands that Y Warws (The Warehouse), the outdoors store where the company Gelert was founded in 1975, is to close before Easter with the loss of four jobs.
Gelert was acquired by Sports Direct International Group in 2013, and the UK’s biggest sports goods company, owned by controversial figure Mike Ashley, has decided to ditch the store (pictured) where Alastair and Jane Langdon established Gelert Ltd 43 years ago.
The Cambrian News approached Y Warws for comment, but was directed to Sports Direct.
Cllr Alwyn Gruffydd told the Cambrian News this week he was “sad” to learn of the imminent closure.
