A NUMBER of local companies have come up trumps in this year’s Great Taste Awards.

The 2017 list of great tastes across the UK was announced last week and has a healthy contingent of local producers being recognised for their efforts.

Daffodil Foods Ltd in Morfa Nefyn earned two stars for their mild soured cream, whilst Dyfi Distillery in Corris also picked up two stars for their hibernation gin.

The Purple Moose’s Antlered IPA and The Sweet Shop in Aberdyfi’s pistachio flavoured ice cream also gained two stars from the judges.

Dyfi Distillery and Purple Moose also gained one star for their Dyfi Original gin and Chocolate Moose bitter respectively.

Welsh Lady Preserves, based in Y Ffôr, picked up a star for their Spicy Tomato Chutney and the Mushroom Gardens in Nantmor, near Beddgelert, scooped two one-stars for their Herbshroom Croutons and Unami Croutons.

South Caernarfon Creameries in Chwilog gained a star for their Vintage cavern-aged cheddar, whilst Cathryn Cariad Chocolates in Blaenau Ffestiniog were recognised for their Dark Chocolate sauce.

Asake Roasted chilli in balsalmic sauce was a one-star winner for Maggie’s Exotic foods in Penygroes and the Mmmmm Mojito scooping a second prize for The Sweet Shop in Aberdyfi.

Judges made their decisions after more than 60 days of judging.

Out of a record breaking 12,336 products to be judged, 4,347 were awarded a highly prized Great Taste accolade and a remarkable 176 are based in Wales.See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online on Thursday
