New figures released today (Friday) on the coronavirus job furlough scheme show Gwynedd has the highest furlough figure in Wales.

HMRC has released data on the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, in its a third set of official statistics.

That data shows that in Gwynedd, 36 per cent of eligible jobs have been furloughed - 16,700 jobs.

Ceredigion’s take-up rate was lower, at 31 per cent, the same rate as in Powys. In Carmarthenshire 30 per cent of jobs that could be furloughed, have been.

Pembrokeshire was higher, at 34 per cent take-up, or 15,500 jobs.

That means that 7,900 roles have been furloughed in Ceredigion, 16,000 in Powys and 22,500 in Carmarthenshire.

The Wales average is 31 per cent.

The government announced the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme on 20 March. CJRS supports employers through the COVID-19 period.

The next release of the official statistics up to 31 August is planned for 18 September.
