A LLYN bistro may be forced to close because of no-shows by pre-booked customers.
Si Toft, who is head chef and runs The Dining Room in Abersoch, says he had ’36 no shows’ over the last week and says it is becoming a growing problem which is damaging his business.
Mr Toft says that the problem is that many people who visit the area are booking multiple restaurants so they can decide on the night where they would like to go.
He feels he now has no choice but to either ask for a deposit when taking a booking, stop taking advance bookings or close his restaurant as he can no longer ‘carry on like this’.
He said: “Bookings are still being made under maiden/assumed/second cousin’s dog’s names, which generally come to light when guests arrive but can’t remember which one they used.
“All very jolly but just briefly ask yourself why anyone would book under an ‘alias’? I can only think of one reason."
Mr Toft said he will be holding a meeting this week to discuss what should be done to tackle the problem.
