A MEIRIONNYDD bed and breakfast has been named the best in Wales.
Taldraeth has been awarded B&B of the Year 2018 – Wales & LUX Excellence Award for Welsh Hospitality and is on the shortlist for The Welsh Hospitality Awards – B&B of the Year and two categories in the Go North Wales Awards – Go B&B/Inn of the Year Award and Go Customer Service of the Year Award.
The 2018 Lux Tourism Awards has been designed to reward those succeeding within one of the world’s most extravagant industries.
The awards showcase the best of the best of those who provide a unique, enjoyable, and luxury home away from home, that truly go above and beyond for their clients.
Taldraeth, The Old Vicarage Guest House, is located in Penrhyndeudraeth with amazing views of the Dwyryd estuary and is run by the owner Mirain Gwyn.
Mirain, who opened the business in 2016, said: “We are very privileged and proud to receive the Lux B&B of the Year Award and for being shortlisted for three other Awards, as our true Welsh welcome and ethos has been recognised, during our first two years of trading.
“I think that we are the most ‘Welsh accommodation in the World’.
“This is due to the Welsh Language being prominent and with the Welsh antiques including furniture that dates back to the 17th century, that my parents collected for over 40 years, as well as high quality paintings of north Wales.
“We use good quality local produce and offer full Welsh cooked breakfast along with other homemade options such as aoufflè omlette, Welsh rarebit, leicecs (light cakes) and a huge choice of homemade preserves created with our own garden produce.
“Taldraeth also uses organic Welsh wool duvet and pillow from Baavet, Harlech and Abaca Welsh organic wool mattresses from Ammanford, Laura Ashley textiles and Myddfai toiletries.”
Minister for culture, tourism and sport, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, said: “Quality and innovation are of the utmost importance in developing world class facilities which ensure that Wales remains a strong contender in a fiercely competitive global industry.
“This latest award for Taldraeth goes to show how important it is to go the extra mile and exceed customer expectations – and also provide a strong sense of place.
“Being recognised as one of the Gold Award Hotels shows the commitment to quality and delivering first class experience.
“I’d like to congratulate Mirain and her team for this award, and wish the business every success in the future.”
