A “temporary ramp access” has been built on Plascrug footbridge, after part of the existing ramp collapsed earlier this year.
The footbridge extends from the Lower Park Avenue car park, on the southern side of Plascrug footbridge, and joins up to the existing bridge over the railway line.
The original ramp was closed after it collapsed in May of this year, restricting access to the rugby club, schools and nursery nearby.
A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council said: “A temporary ramp access has been provided on the southern side of Plascrug footbridge following the collapse of part of the existing ramp earlier in the year.
“The council would like to thank the local contractors and landowners who have worked alongside it to provide the ramp and apologises for the delay in its completion which in part has been as a result of the build requirements and the availability of specialist materials.
“The council is also undertaking a review of the current bridge under current Active Travel guidelines to investigate possible future major refurbishment/replacement work.”
Cllr Ceredig Davies said: “The footfall over the bridge during the school run is substantial and the construction of the scaffolding ramp will benefit those parents with young children in pushchairs and the less mobile.
“There were constraints with its construction due to the railway line being on the one side and an electrical substation on the other. There was also the need to allow access to repair the original collapsed ramp.
“The scaffolding ramp is quite long in order to have a gradient shallow enough that complied with disability access requirements.
“As with nearly all construction projects, at present, there was a small delay in having it ready due to the sourcing of building material.
“As the local councillor I wish to show my appreciation to the council staff involved, the Vale of Rheidol Railway in making land available, Mid Wales Scaffolding and their sub contractors, Ray Burrell and R M Polymers.
“With obvious work required on the whole bridge the ramp might be there for some time.”
