ADVERTISING boards should be banned from Ceredigion streets as they are causing problems for elderly and disabled people and parents with young children, according to campaigners.
The call for greater action over the use of A-boards has come from Pat Bates, the secretary of the North Ceredigion Forum for Elderly Care, who has hit out at Ceredigion council for not taking action to stop the use of the boards after the council said it had no policy to limit the number of boards used in town centres.
Pat said the number of A-boards on the streets was a concern for the forum and accused the council of a “smoke screen” with its claim that it works on a ‘Clutter Free Ceredigion Initiative’ while also admitting that it has no policy in place to limit boards.
She said: “As the secretary of the North Ceredigion Forum for Elderly Care created by the Save Bodlondeb campaigners, I have become acutely aware of the attitude of a small number of elected councillors who have voted against services implemented for the wellbeing and safety of our elderly and infirm.
“With regard to the ever-increasing number of A-boards cluttering our pavements, which are a danger for not only the visually impaired, but our elderly with balance problems, those on crutches, wheelchair users, prams etc, the response of Ceredigion council to the forum’s A-board protest letters to them is a vague reference to the Clutter Free Ceredigion Initiative.
“This is all a smoke screen, the fact being that no A-boards, which in the main are unsteady and collapsible, should be allowed on our pavements."
