A COUNCILLOR has called for more to be done on speed limits in Llanon, as the Welsh Government consults on proposals for a temporary speed limit outside the village school during term-times.
The Welsh Government has proposed a 20mph limit on the A487 near Llanon school during term-times at pick up and drop off times - with a 21-day consultation underway.
Ceredigion county councillor for the Llansantffraid ward Dafydd Edwards, who lives in Bethania close to Llanon, welcomed the move but said that more can be still be done to improve road safety through the village.
Cllr Edwards said that the Welsh Government plan for the area “does have the added advantage of 20mph limit on feeder roads within Llanon” but he would like to see the speed limit restriction extended in other parts of the village.
“I would have preferred to see the extension of the 30mph limit to include the junction with the Craig Ddu estate and would like to see a pedestrian crossing within the village, which I have requested on numerous occasions,” he told the Cambrian News.
The Welsh Government order will see the part-time 20mph speed limit extend from the junction of the A487 with Stryd-yr-Eglwys to close to the junction with Stryd-y-Neuadd in the village.
The Welsh Government said the changes, one of a host it is introducing in tranches across Wales, would “reduce the speed of traffic and promote pedestrian safety near Ysgol Gynradd Llanon”.
