A Pwllheli councillor has called for a street to be made one-way, after a pensioner was badly hurt in a fall.
Last week the Cambrian News reported on the fall at Gaol Street in the town, when 68-year-old Mary Rees fell on the “narrow, uneven” path and hurt her head and arms.
This week Cllr Dylan Bullard told the Cambrian News that improvements need to be made as soon as possible.
He said: “It is a very narrow street with narrow pavements in places. There have been many instances of trips and falls over the years.
“Why it is not a one-way street is beyond me, and by doing so the pavements could be widened.
“At the moment prams and wheelchairs users have to use the road. This is not on and I call on the council to finally rectify the problem as soon as possible.”
Responding to Cllr Bullard’s comment, Mary said: “I totally agree with him. It’s an old town with narrow roads.
“We want it to be a one-way street. Sometimes when wider cars come at the same time they need to go up onto the pavement to pass each other.
“A friend of mine is registered blind. She would rather walk on the road because the path is not safe."
Gwynedd Council said public feedback suggested a one-way system on Stryd Moch (Gaol Street) would not alleviate the main concerns regarding footways in the town centre.
Despite this, officers would be happy to discuss the matter further with the town council, they said.
