A CAMPAIGN has been launched in Tywyn to restore a clock in memory of a popular businessman and football fanatic.
The clock, which commemorates former referee Bob Roberts, used to be housed on the former toilet block near the train station in Tywyn, but has been in storage for many years after the clock fell into disrepair and the public toilet was demolished.
At the last town council meeting, Cllr Eileen Ellis, at the bequest of numerous residents, called on the council to repair the clock and replace it near the town council building.
Cllr John Pughe was keen to support Cllr Ellis in her mission to bring the clock back into use but did not agree with its location.
“This matter has been raised time and time again with no resolution,” he said.
“The last time this was discussed we agreed to fix the clock and place it on Neuadd Pendre as the council building was deemed unsuitable.
“We’re still waiting for this to happen.”
Gwynedd councillor Anne Lloyd Jones was slightly more reserved.
“First of all, shouldn’t we establish whether the clock is repairable and whether it’s cost effective to repair it?
“If not, perhaps we could get a new clock in his honour rather than spending additional money.”
