RESIDENTS and holidaymakers in Aberaeron came up against a cash barrier over the Easter bank holiday weekend, it has emerged.
Disgruntled locals and visitors alike were left feeling short-changed when the town’s cash machines ran out of funds on one of the busiest weekends of the year.
Now Cllr Elizabeth Evans has formally complained to Barclays – the sole remaining bank in Aberaeron – pointing out that this was not the first time cashpoints had not been topped up.
“I am extremely concerned that a pattern seems to be emerging where cashpoints in Aberaeron are running out of money at the start of a weekend,” she told the Cambrian News. “As well as Barclays the other cashpoints were also out of funds.
“Thank goodness that people were able to withdraw money from the post office which saw increased queues. Cashpoint providers must ensure that on weekends – and particularly bank holiday weekends – there are sufficient funds in the machines to meet the needs of a busy town. All evidence suggests that, when cashpoints are out of money, the spend in the town reduces.”
Town mayor Cllr Rhys Davies agreed that the post office had eased a difficult situation.
