Two Ceredigion-based organisations are celebrating over £160,000 of grants from the National Lottery.
Llandysul Family Centre and Hen Ysgol y Ferwig Cyf have both received grants from the National Lottery.
The £95,203 grant awarded to the Llandysul Family Centre was to ‘increase family and community well-being’.
The centre’s stated aim is that parents’ strengths will be built on, empowering them to find solutions to situations and practice them in a safe place and then transfer them to their home life in the community.
Sessions will be provided to increase speech and language skills in children, and for parents who find it hard to maintain relationships due to their own difficult upbringing.
Emma Morgan, speaking on behalf of Llandysul Family Centre, welcomed the grant saying: “This is fantastic news and means that Llandysul Family Centre can continue to support families in the local area”
Derek Preston-Hughes, funding manager at the Big Lottery Fund, said it was hoped that engaging with the project would help reduce isolation and improve the family members’ health and well-being while giving them the skills they need to better manage their relationships.
“Parents will be able to build on their skills to become leaders in their community,” he added.
Hen Ysgol y Ferwig Cyf will use their grant of £65,700 to buy the old school hall which they currently lease from Ceredigion County Council.
General improvements will include damp proofing, heating and improved glazing for windows.
They will also employ a part-time co-ordinator to help oversee existing activities, increase the number of new activities and further increase community use.
