Families across Ceredigion can now benefit from 12.5 hours of funded childcare each week following the expansion of a Welsh Government scheme.
The extension, which came into effect this month, means eligible two-year-olds throughout the county can access funded early years childcare, regardless of where they live.
Previously, the availability of funded provision was more geographically restricted, but the latest changes mean families in rural communities and larger towns alike can benefit.
The scheme is intended to reduce childcare costs for parents while helping young children develop important social, communication and learning skills before starting school.
Funded places will be provided through Ceredigion's network of registered childcare providers, with parents encouraged to check availability and eligibility.
Ceredigion County Council says the expansion will help ensure children have access to early learning opportunities closer to home.
Councillor Alun Williams, Cabinet Member for Through Age Wellbeing, Support and Care, welcomed the changes.
He said: “This investment in our youngest children will help ensure they have the best possible start in life, while also providing valuable support to parents and carers.
“By extending the offer county-wide, we are creating greater opportunities for families and helping more children access high-quality early years experiences that support their development and future wellbeing.”
The expansion forms part of the Welsh Government's wider commitment to improving access to affordable childcare and supporting children's development during their earliest years.
For families in rural areas of Ceredigion, where childcare options can be limited by distance and availability, the geographical expansion could prove particularly significant.
However, access to a funded place will still depend on individual eligibility and the availability of participating childcare providers.
