MANY playgrounds in Ceredigion remain closed today despite the Welsh Government announcing last week they could re-open.

First Minister, Mark Drakeford announced on Friday that all playgrounds, funfairs and community centres in Wales could reopen on Monday.

Most playgrounds in the county are run by town and community councils, with Ceredigion Council running Netpool in Cardigan, which they say will remain closed for the time being.

Speaking on Friday, First Minister Mark Drakeford said: “With rates of the virus in Wales continuing to fall, we are able to carry on with our gradual, step-by-step lifting of the restrictions.

“From Monday, playgrounds and outdoor gyms will be able to reopen. Community centres will be able to increase their activity, helping local authorities provide summer holiday play schemes and childcare.

“Funfairs will also be able to reopen as they have had time to consider how they can put appropriate measures in place before customers return. This follows the reopening of indoor and outdoor attractions in recent weeks.

“While the removal of these restrictions allows these places to reopen, it does not require them to."

There are 86 community play areas in Ceredigion, 85 are owned or Managed by Town and Community Councils or Community Groups.

Ceredigion Council said: “Ceredigion Play Area Network have been supported by the Council to ensure that if they decide to reopen their facility over the following weeks, their decision to do so is based on a thorough assessment of the risks and measures put in place to mitigate those risks.

Guidance has been provided to Ceredigion Play Area Network members about safely reopening commuinty play areas by the Council and in line with Welsh Government guidelines.
