THREE Ceredigion police officers have been shortlisted for a Dyfed-Powys award chosen by the public.

DC Scott Morris, PC James Crabb, and PCSO Ryan Jones are among five officers nominated for the #WeCare Award for their commitment to the people they serve.

Dc Morris, formerly of Aberystwyth but now based at Brecon, has been nominated for the “compassionate and professional way in which he worked with a bereaved Pembrokeshire family following a sudden death in 2013.”

The nomination said: “Your officer handled himself and the situation impeccably, with grace, care, compassion and professionalism.

“Your officer deserved my thanks four years ago and I regret not giving it before now.

“He made the worst day of my life a little more bearable than it could have been and for that he deserves recognition.”

DC Morris said: “The nomination and notification of shortlisting is a welcome bolt from the blue.

“I am truly honoured that a family sought to thank me after so many years and feel truly humbled to have made the positive impression I did.

“While I do not expect to achieve public recognition, I must say when it arrives it does fill you with immense pride.”

PCSO Jones, of Lampeter, has been nominated for his work in helping a teenager who was being bullied at school.

PC Crabb, based in Aberystwyth, has been nominated for helping someone in need while off duty.

He’d previously been in contact with the woman following calls over concerns for her welfare, and in those situations was praised for showing “reassuring calmness in the midst of mental chaos”.
