A NUMBER of local heroes have been handed certificates at Newcastle Emlyn’s annual mayor-making ceremony.

At the ceremony in Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn, new mayor Cllr Peter Lewis and mayoress Sharon Lewis were presented with their chains of office.

The deputy mayor is Cllr Cefin Evans.

Certificates of success were awarded to several people in the area for their achievements in 2017 including dressage rider Sally Leppard-Howell (Ysgol y Ddwylan); Peter Williams for looking after the town and keeping it clean, ‘Team Lightning’ (Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn) for representing Wales in the 1st Lego Competition in America and winning the National 1st Lego League Competition.

Representatives of Newcastle Emlyn FC Girls Under-16s team were awarded a certificate for being in the Welsh Cup Final 2017 and winning the FA Wales Interleague tournament.

Cllr Cefin Evans, Team Enduro Vintage Motor Bikes for being a member of Team GB and winning the Gold Medal for Wales in the Vintage Twin Shock Bikes Competition in Spain.
