FLOODING left roads in chaos in parts of Dwyfor over the Christmas weekend.

An amber warning was issued from the Met Office on Christmas Day and Boxing Day which saw extremely high rainfall hit the region causing main routes to be closed off over the festive weekend.

Traffic lights were set up on the A499 between Llanbedrog and Pwllheli and the residents of Riverside Terrace in Pwllheli were once again subjected to even more flooding.

The Rhyd-hir River in Efailnewydd also burst its banks on Boxing Day and left the surrounding fields submerged in water.

Residents were also handed out sandbags on Golf Road in Pwllheli after the residential area became swamped in water.

Porthmadog Football Club also suffered another blow as their ground became flooded for the second time in less than a month.

A spokesperson said: “The match against Holyhead Hotspur on 28 December had to be postponed after the Traeth suffered severe flooding for the second time in less than a month.

“Club officials are still assessing the damage but the floods come as a body-blow, particularly considering the huge clean-up effort following the previous floods.”

The Glaslyn Valley, which houses the Glaslyn Ospreys site, was also hit by floods.

A spokesperson for Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife said: “Conditions in the Glaslyn Valley were appalling over the weekend, with more floodwater in the Aberglaslyn, Nantmor and Pont Croesor areas that has been seen for a good long while.

“The visitor centre remains free of problems, however the protection caravan has once again been underwater.”

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “Some of the roads closed included the B4401 at Llandderfel, the B4410 between Pont Croesor and Prenteg, the A499 at Riverside on the outskirts of Pwllheli, the A4085 between Nantmor and Llanfrothen, the B4417 at Tudweiliog and there were difficult conditions on the A497 between Pwllheli and Efailnewydd."
