AN INDEPENDENT cinema is opening its doors on Christmas Day in a heartwarming gesture to help anyone feeling alone.

The Magic Lantern in Tywyn, recently acknowledged as one of the UK’s finest community-run picture houses, will offer festive food, carols, a classic Christmas film and company on what can be the loneliest day of the year for some people.

The event will be completely free for everyone who attends and it will be run by volunteers and funded by charitable donations during the season of goodwill.

People of all ages and faiths are welcome and 200 spaces are available.

Sara Waddington, who represents the Magic Lantern, offered a warm welcome to all.

“Many people find Christmas a sad or lonely time of year and this year The Magic Lantern wants to combat loneliness and hopes to bring company and Christmas Cheer to anyone who would like to spend Christmas Day with others,” she said.

“We will be open from 11am till 3pm and the day will include entertainment, a buffet lunch, carol singing, a film and, most of all, the company of others.

“A Gofundme page has been set up for anyone who wishes to donate money or time to the event which will all go towards creating the perfect Christmas.”
