You may spot a green bus of the future zipping about the roads of Mid Wales this week.

Bus and coach operator Lloyd’s Coaches of Machynlleth has launched a trial of the first full-size-battery electric, zero emissions bus to operate on services in Mid Wales.

Since 1 March the company has been trialling the British-built ADL Enviro 200EV working in partnership with Chinese leading battery manufacture BYD.

The 100 per cent electric, zero emissions vehicle is being operated on the company’s bus routes around Aberystwyth and Machynlleth areas for 10 days.

The vehicle is trialling Smart Vision High Definition cameras and LCD screens replacing driver mirrors to improve driver visibility and reduce the risk of accidents.

Lloyd’s Coaches operations manager Dan Lloyd said: “Buses will play a vital role in the post-Covid-19 recovery and will help provide a vital boost to the local economy.

“We at Lloyd’s Coaches are keen to try out the very latest new technology on offer for our buses of the future to reduce our carbon emissions.

“Over recent years battery technology has moved on a long way and now is at a level that buses can complete up to 200 miles on a single charge making them a viable alternative to fossil fuels and improve our green credentials.

"We look forward to evaluating this vehicle and other alternative fuelled vehicles on our routes in Mid Wales in order we can determine our future vehicle policy making them as clean, green and environmentally friendly as possible.”

Lloyd’s Coaches is one of largest employers in Mid Wales area and operates a fleet of modern vehicles from depots at Machynlleth and Dolgellau, operating all over North and Mid Wales.
