A PENRHYNDEUDRAETH community project has secured a place in the final of a competition which could see them secure a share of a £250,000 prize fund.
Gwerin y Coed Community Education Centre are finalists in the 2016 Jewson Building Better Communities competition along with four other community projects across Wales.
Gwerin y Coed is a voluntary youth organisation dedicated to the education and development of children and young people. They have 20 registered volunteers and more than 60 children and young people taking part in regular activities.
Megan Thorman from the organisation said: “Currently the groups don’t have anywhere suitable to meet inside during winter or when the weather is too bad to run activities outside, and we desperately need somewhere where we can meet comfortably, to plan and run sessions and workshops, and support and train new volunteers.
“We’ve been given one of the old disused buildings on a local nature reserve, which is managed by the North Wales Wildlife Trust – it’s known as the ‘Settling Shed’ (Sied Setlo) from the factory days."
If the Penhryndeudraeth group are successful they will be awarded building materials from Jewson to help transform the Settling Shed.
To help Gwerin y Coed come out on top in the competition and secure a share of the prize money you can vote for them by visiting www.facebook.com/jewsonuk by 19 June.
