COMMUNITY groups and projects that have benefitted from a total of grants of nearly £35,000 from Aberystwyth Town Council for 2017 gathered at the council’s Annual General Meeting last week.

Representatives of the 28 groups which shared the £34,998 in grant money were welcomed by the town’s new-look council on Monday, 15 May at the council offices on Baker Street.

The larger donations included £4,000 towards the staging of the Town Carnival, £2,000 for the Aberystwyth Silver Band to compete in the Brass Extravaganza 2018, £5,000 towards the New Approaches project at Ceredigion Museum, and £2,500 for events and anniversary celebrations of the town’s twinning with Kronberg.

The St Brieuc twinning partnership also received £2,000 towards costs for exchange programmes and other events.

Aberystwyth Town Football Club was given £1,948 from the town council towards the costs of mitigating the glare for nearby residents of the club’s floodlights.

That money went towards a timer system for the lights and a system to limit light levels at certain times following complaints.

The Esquel Partnership received £1,500 for an anniversary event, while the Cardigan Bay Fisherman’s Association received the same amount towards the Aberystwyth Sea2Shore Food Festival 2017.
