There was an interesting 3 No Trumps contract on board 4, with the result varying from 5 to 13 tricks made depending on the lead. On 30 August, the winners were Mike Fellows and Gill Howells. Herbie Rowley and Mair Harrison were second and Dai Hayes and Keith Bellamy third. There were interesting hands on board 3. After East bids his hearts on a weak six-card suit and East/West get to a 4 Hearts contract, North can either bid to 5 Clubs – inevitably doubled and earning East/West a score of 800 - or South can double, in which case North/ South earn themselves a score of 500-1100. A massive swing of fortunes! The club will play in the Welsh Bridge Union Simultaneous Competition on Thursday, 6 September, and in the Mid-Wales Simultaneous Ladies’ and Men’s Pairs Competition on 13 September, where the same set of hands will also be played in Cardigan, Lampeter and Aberystwyth, as well as on the other side of Plynlimmon. The club meets in the Royal British Legion Hall each Thursday at 6.40pm. For further information, phone the club secretary on 01239 811718.
