Duplicate Bridge sessions for Improvers continues on Wednesday afternoons starting at 1pm.
Last week, East opened 3 Diamonds, showing seven of the suit. South overcalled 4 Clubs and West upped East’s bid to 5 Diamonds. North with only a single Club, but six spades and five hearts, now bid 5 Spades. It transpired that East only had three points, so that 5 Diamonds would have been a cheap ‘steal’.

Aeron Valley Railway Society
THE society met on Wednesday evening at its usual venue in the Legion Hall.
Although several regular members were not able to be present, there was nevertheless a good number in the audience to see a slide show by David Williams. He is a prolific photographer and entertained us with a wide variety of subjects centred on preserved railways not only from the UK, but also from mainland Europe. Members were treated to pictures from venues of which some present had never heard! The subjects included both standard and narrow gauge railways, primarily steam operated and it gave us a fascinating variety of subjects to view.
They were also delighted to welcome back previous chairman Frank Poulter, who had travelled all the way from East Anglia for a flying visit.
Next month’s meeting will be the society’s AGM, to be held on the Wednesday, 16 October at the Royal British Legion Hall in Victoria Street at 7.30pm. It is hoped the formal proceedings will not take too long, so that members can then enjoy the buffet provided and an opportunity to converse with other members. Guests and prospective members will be welcome.
